Ex-Manager At iQ CU Branch Jailed For $60,000 Cash Theft

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A former assistant manager at the Ridgefield branch of iQ CU on Monday was sentenced to seven months in jail for stealing $60,000 from a cash vault and cash-dispensing machines.

Michele Chartier, 26, pleaded guilty in July to embezzling money from the branch between March and September 2009.

Chartier created a $60,000 advance to be paid on a customer’s line of credit and tricked a co-worker into causing a payment to be made from the customer’s money market account, according to prosecutors.

Chartier said she embezzled the money to pay for her unborn child. At sentencing, it was learned, however, that she used the money to pay for household expenses and a mortgage.
