Ex-VP Candidate Addresses CUs

Former senator and vice presidential candidate John Edwards said credit unions do much to "protect" people from predatory lenders. Edwards delivered the opening keynote address at the California and Nevada CU Leagues' recent annual convention here.

"I have a long history of support of credit unions because of the work you do, and that includes your tax status," he said to enthusiastic applause. "What credit unions do to protect people from predatory lenders and check cashers is so important. Sometimes, these families have no money, are three days away from payday, and their kids have to eat. Without credit unions, the only place they can go when their money is gone is to check cashers, and that can start a cycle they can't escape from."
