VIRGINIA BEACH – A 54-year-old robber who favored credit unions was contrite when he pleaded guilty in state court yesterday.
Arthur Kortlag pleaded guilty to the July 25th robbery at Chartway FCU, the July 10 hold-up at Hampton Roads Catholic FCU, the July 3rd heist at converted credit union Bank @tlantec, and the attempted robbery on June 23 at CU Service Centers.
So you are a bank robber, huh? asked Circuit Judge Thomas Padrick.
Not very good at it, your honor, Kortlang responded.
Kortlang faces a maximum of life imprisonment when he is sentenced on Jan. 29. His girlfriend, Maureen Carrier, was also arrested and charged with all but the June robbery. Her case was delayed to next Wednesday.
