Four Banks Fail, Including Two More In Georgia

WASHINGTON – The FDIC seized four banks Friday, making a total of 41 bank failures so far in 2010.

Friday’s failures included one in Florida, one in Arizona and two more in Georgia – ground zero for the banking crisis, where 38 banks have gone under since August 2008.

The latest failures are: $88 million Key West (Fla.) Bank; $500 million Desert Hills Bank in Phoenix; $295 million Unity National Bank in Cartersville, Ga. and $365 million McIntosh Commercial Bank in Carrolton, Ga.

The FDIC on Friday also said that it has stepped up regulatory oversight of four troubled Georgia banks: Sunrise Bank, Atlanta; Bank of Valdosta; Bank of Perry; and, Peoples State Bank, Jeffersonville.
