GARDINER, Maine Phil Bergeron, who began his credit union career in 1969 while in college as a volunteer director Notre Dame FCU, and spent the 26 years as CEO of Gardiner FCU, retired June 30.
Bergeron was hired in 1974 as an auditor for the Maine CU League, then became the manager of York County Teachers FCU in 1975, where he remained until 1995. After a brief hiatus, he was hired as President/CEO of Gardiner FCU in 1997.
Vicki Lemieux, who has held the position of loan/collections manager at the credit union for a number of years, will succeed Bergeron as CEO of the $36-million credit union.
