ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The nation's largest credit unions continue to grow through mergers, with NCUA reporting it approved four more mergers involving credit unions over with more than $1 billion in assets.
They include an agreement by $12-billion Pentagon FCU to acquire $9-million Clara Barton FCU, in nearby Washington, D.C., the credit union giant's eighth merger since 2004, but first since the end of 2005.
The $1-billion University of Wisconsin CU announced an agreement to acquire MATC CU, a nearby $3-million institution.
NCUA also approved applications from:
* The Golden 1 CU, the $7-billion Sacramento, Calif., credit union, to acquire 1st United FCU, a $20-million San Jose, credit union.;
* Wright-Patt CU, a $1.4-billion Fairborn, Ohio, credit union, to acquire Grimes CU, a $3-million institution in nearby Urbana.;
