Giants Win KC BBQ Sauce For San Francisco FCU

KANSAS CITY, Mo. and SAN FRANCISCO — With the San Francisco Giants winning the World Series in seven games, Steven Stapp can fire up his grill for a victory barbecue.

Prior to the start of the Fall Classic Stapp, president and CEO of $910 million San Francisco Federal Credit Union, challenged Brandon Michaels, president and CEO of $490 million Mazuma Credit Union in Kansas City, to a friendly wager on the outcome.

The Giants triumph means Mazuma CU will send Stapp and San Francisco FCU some famous Kansas City BBQ sauce. (If the Kansas City Royals had won, San Francisco Federal would have had to deliver Michaels and Mazuma CU sourdough bread, a well-known staple of San Francisco.)

The CUs also took the opportunity to contribute to charities in the opposing communities.

Because the Giants took the title, Mazuma CU will contribute to St. Anthony's, a social services foundation in San Francisco. Had the Royals won the series, San Francisco FCU would have donated to Spofford House, a similar social services organization in Kansas City.

Perhaps Stapp should invite Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner — the World Series MVP after two wins, a save and only one run allowed in 21 innings — over to Stapp's house for some of that sauce. Bumgarner earned it.
