Greylock Names John Bissell as President/CEO

The board of directors of Greylock Federal Credit Union, a $1.1-billion institution based in Pittsfield, Mass., named John Bissell as its new president and chief executive officer, succeeding CEO Marilyn Sperling, who will retire on Oct. 1.

Bissell first joined Greylock in 2003 as vice president of marketing and human resources, then became senior vice president in 2007 and was promoted to executive vice president in 2010. Bissell earned his Bachelor's Degree from Amherst College in 1989, graduated from the New England School for Financial Studies program at Babson College in 2011, and is currently earning his MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

"Marilyn has done an outstanding job of improving Greylock's financial strength and building a strong team over the past five years, and John has been her strong partner throughout that process," board chairman Jerry Burke said in a statement.

Greylock also noted that Sperling will remain "actively engaged" with Greylock to help complete its merger with Berkshire Federal Credit Union, a tiny $12-million institution also based in Pittsfield. Earlier this month, NCUA approved the merger.
