WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – With the 10-year anniversary of HR 1151 rapidly approaching, the Credit Union Journal is seeking readers’ recollections of the battle to get the landmark bill, known as the Credit Union Membership Access Act, passed and signed into law.
In one of the most epic battles of the credit union-bank wars, the bill overturned a 1996 Supreme Court ruling and explicitly legalized the ability of credit unions to serve multiple groups, instead of a single common bond.
