Heartland CU Acquiring Kilowatt CU

MADISON, Wis. – Heartland CU is picking up a new branch with the Aug. 1 merger of Kilowatt CU, a $23-million Madison credit union.

Kilowatt CU was chartered in 1935 to serve employees of what now is known as Alliant Energy Corporation. It now serves communities in Columbia, Dane, Dodge and Sauk counties. Kilowatt CU reported losses in 2011 and 2012 and the first quarter of 2013, but has net worth of almost 17%.

Heartland CU was chartered in 1936 and originally served telephone company employees throughout the state. It now serves 29 counties in southern Wisconsin, eastern Iowa and northern Illinois. It has $196 million in assets.
