NORTH CANTON, Ohio Diebold named a former executive for Siemens AG and Hewlett-Packard as its CEO last week as it tries to revive its core ATM business.
Andy Mattes, 52, most recently served as a senior vice president at Violin Memory, which makes flash memory computer storage systems. With HP, he was senior vice president and general manager for Enterprise Services for the Americas.
Mattes was born in Nuremberg, Germany, and spent most of his career with Siemens, a German industrial conglomerate.
Diebold’s previous CEO, Thomas Swidarski, abruptly stepped down in January after 17 years at the company, including seven as CEO.
Executive Chairman Henry Wallace, a former chief financial officer at Ford Motor, has led the company since then.
Swidarski left on the day Diebold said it was taking a cautious outlook for 2013, and that it expected relatively flat adjusted earnings and revenue.
In April, Diebold reported a first quarter loss of $13.4 million and announced 700 job cuts. The company plans to cut overall costs by $100 million to $150 million by 2015.
