Idaho CUL-Sponsored Bill Passes Legislature

House Bill 134, which seeks to crack down on ID theft and which was drafted by Idaho league CEO Alan Cameron, has been passed by the legislature. The bill restricts the information that can be included on receipts given to cardholders. Merchants using electronic registers or other receipt printers (including ATM's) may no longer print more than the last five digits of the account number and may not print the expiration date of the card on the receipt given to the consumer. Handwritten receipts and those created by the old-style slider systems are not included in this legislation. All electronically printed receipts must be compliant by Jan. 1, 2005. The bill had the support of several groups, including the Idaho Bankers Association.
