MARYSVILLE, Calif. – A man police say robbed as many as 16 credit unions and banks up and down the state’s Highway 101 was arrested by the California Highway Patrol Wednesday night-- but near Interstate 80, and not U.S. Highway 101.

The arrest came just hours after the bandit hit Bank of the West in nearby Fairfield. The same robber is believed to have held-up a Provident CU branch in Menlo Park on Monday.
The suspect was identified as 64-year-old Arthur Chaney, of Napa. Chaney was spotted by a highway patrolman driving along Highway 70 near Marysville in a Mercedes that matched the description of the ‘Highway 101 Bandit’s.’ Chaney gave up without a fight.
