KANSAS CITY, Mo. and SAN FRANCISCO — As the World Series plays on, CEOs at credit unions in the home cities of the Royals and Giants have a friendly wager on the outcome.
Steven Stapp, president and CEO of $910 million San Francisco Federal Credit Union, challenged Brandon Michaels, president and CEO of $490 million Mazuma Credit Union in Kansas City. If the San Francisco Giants win, Mazuma CU will send Stapp and San Francisco FCU some famous Kansas City BBQ sauce. If the Kansas City Royals win, San Francisco Federal will send Michaels and Mazuma CU sourdough bread, a well-known staple of San Francisco.
"It is a fun bet," Stapp told Credit Union Journal.
The CUs also are taking the opportunity to contribute to charities in the opposing communities. If the Giants take away the World Series title, Mazuma CU will contribute to St. Anthony's, a social services foundation in San Francisco. If the Royals win the series, San Francisco FCU will donate to Spofford House, a similar social services organization located in Kansas City.
To make things even more interesting, Michaels, a former San Franciscan, may be traveling to AT&T Park for one of the World Series games.
