Lawmakers Take The Tax Pledge--WithConditions

HONOLULU - (10/28/04) -- CUNA and its state league affiliateshave succeeded in obtaining the pledge--to defend the credit uniontax exemption, from more than 150 members of Congress, so far. CUNAPresident Dan Mica proudly told attendees to CUNA's Future Forumthat 159 members of Congress have committed to supporting the taxexemption in writing, but there is a caveat. "What I didn't mentionis the number of (those supporters) who added the line 'as long asyou stay true to your mission' to their statement of support," saidMica. It's an important caveat to note, since the way credit unionsdefine their mission could be different from how these lawmakersperceive that mission.
