Michigan league President Dave Adams, who was recently appointed to the governor's Council of Economic Advisors, is calling on CUs to join together to promote the industry's uniqueness by supporting joint marketing efforts.
"In spite of efforts to strengthen state charters, we're still hearing of charter conversions," he said, pointing to 20 nationwide, including one in Michigan that converted several years ago and another- Lake Michigan CU in Grand Rapids - that is in the process. He also urged the audience of credit union leaders to remain "diligent' and "effective" in their efforts to preserve the industry's tax-exempt status.
