WICHITA — Consolidation among state credit union leagues isn't slowing down, as leagues in Kansas and Missouri are exploring the possibility of a merger.
The boards of the Kansas CU Association and Missouri CU Association have announced in statements Monday that the two leagues have entered into a letter of intent to form a consolidated organization. Both groups already have a history of working together and hold similar values, visions and philosophies, with an emphasis on member service, the groups said.
The combined organization, according to the leagues' statements, "will result in a stronger force representing credit unions, both locally and nationally, and allow for an improved and enhanced service offering to members."
Representatives from both leagues have met multiple times in recent months identifying opportunities for collaboration and exploring service options, and will formulate a business plan in the coming months to present to membership for approval. The new alignment between the two organizations is expected to advocate for CUs and their members' interests in both states, as well as on national and regional issues.
State leagues in other parts of the country have also merged into regional leagues in recent years, such as Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma (now collectively known as Cornerstone CU League), and North and South Carolina (Carolinas CU League), among others.
