Leagues Partner With USA Today On Site

The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues have partnered with USA TODAY to sponsor a new "micro" website as part of an interactive, customized financial education program. The site was created and co-branded by the leagues with the newspaper's Education Department and is called "Choice Is Power."

The site teaches personal financial education to young people using educational resources and USA TODAY's recent Financial Diet series on how to examine debt, money management, savings, and investing. The new "micro-site" can be accessed from the league's website at www.ccul.org by clicking on "USA TODAY Partnership-Choice Is Power," found under "Quick Links."

According to the leagues, it will feature lessons developed periodically throughout the school year and is available for download. It also contains links to daily activities, a USA TODAY snapshot graphic, and daily lesson plans derived from the day's newspaper edition.

League-member credit unions may include a link to the micro site on their websites by going to the site.

The Choice Is Power curriculum, which also includes news-based lesson plans focusing on reading and writing strategies, is being delivered to 250 teachers throughout California and Nevada. Schools were selected in part if they had on-site credit unions or their teachers had credit union access.
