Members Chip Away To Win Cold, Hard Cash

In a chilling way to start the Labor Day weekend, 10 members of Water and Power Community CU melted their way to some easy money during the credit union's second annual "Cold Hard Cash" contest. The 10 contestants melted their way through life-sized ice sculptures to cash prizes ranging from $100 to $2,000. The 150-pound sculptures were molded to represent the credit union's loan products (car, home, boat).

Above, Christian Andrade attempts to melt his way to a cash prize at the center of a 150 pound block of ice during the contest. Andrade retrieved a check for $2,000 inside the block.

Above, right, Samantha Chea receives a check from WPCCU CEO Carl E. Stewart. Chea retrieved a check for $100 inside the block plus she won $1,000 for being the first of 10 contestants to melt through to the prize during the contest.
