RICHMOND, Va. – Navy FCU, which has embarked on the most ambitious expansion ever for credit unions, opened its first branch in the Virginia capital, the $33-billion credit union’s 27th new branch so far this year.

The world’s largest credit union said 12,000 of its members live within 20 miles of Richmond and 530,000 members live in the state of Virginia.
The credit union plans to double its 120-branch network by the year 2014.
The new Richmond branch is a remodeled Wachovia Bank facility. Navy FCU said it plans at least one other branch for Virginia’s Capital City, as well.
