NCUA Grants Big San Francisco Charter

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NCUA yesterday approved an expansion for San Francisco FCU that will allow the $830-million credit union, which serves San Francisco County, to serve 725,000 residents in San Mateo County to the south, also.

The proposed charter would cover two-thirds of the three-county San Francisco metropolitan statistical area.

Because the combined FOM would exceed 1 million, the 59-year-old credit union required NCUA Board approval, which it received yesterday. The credit union originally was chartered to serve employees of the city of San Francisco.
