Conn. Program Wins Award

MERIDEN, Conn.-The Financial Reality Fair program, created by Connecticut CUs and the Connecticut CU League, has won the national Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award for CU leagues for the 2009-2010 school year. "The Fair is an experience for high school students, who research their career choice and starting salary prior to the Fair date," the league said. "They are provided with a budget worksheet identifying their career choice then must live within the starting salary for the month while living on their own during the Fair." Fifty-two CUs participated in eight Financial Literacy Fairs, which was created as part of the REAL Solutions program, with 1,800 students from 50 high schools participating.
