RALEIGH, N.C. State Employees’ CU has signed an operating contract with Greater Kinston CU to provide full back-office support to help the $11-million credit union minimize operational expenses.
The two credit unions said the conversion to SECU’s systems and services will provide a platform to enhance full service offerings for Greater Kinston CU, which reported assets of $17 million a year ago. Greater Kinston reported a loss of $74,000 for the first quarter of 2013, and losses for 2011 and 2012.
SECU currently provides similar operational services to Durham-based Latino Community CU.
The 60-year-old Greater Kinston is one of the last three African-American credit unions in North Carolina continuing to primarily serve its demographic member population. It has 5,000 members.
