CU Amps Up Expansion Plans
AUSTIN, Texas-Amplify FCU, a former IBM employees credit union, said it hopes to build as many as 15 branches over the next three years. The first branch will be opened downtown in July, giving the $535 credit union six service facilities. The expansion plans include an investment of as much as $1 million in salaries and training on the information technology side, and another $2 million in computers, software and other IT equipment, according to Amplify officials.
Another focus this year will be to increase lending to local businesses, including small businesses seeking loans in the range of $50,000 to $1 million.
Branch Sited Inside Goodwill Store
SAN ANTONIO-Generations FCU is the latest credit union to partner with Goodwill Industries and opened a branch in a Goodwill store here. The $400 million credit union plans to offer transitional products and services to help the typically low-income Goodwill customers build credit, save money and pay reasonable rates on loans. Under the partnership, credit union employees will sit down with Goodwill customers, conduct a one-on-one needs assessment interview, and then recommend programs and services that fit their situations. The credit union also will plan financial literacy courses. The credit union partnership with Goodwill was developed by Prospera CU in Appleton, Wis.
Ex-Manager Jailed In $56K Scheme
HOUSTON-The former manager of defunct Saint John Vianney FCU yesterday was sentenced to 15 months in prison for stealing $56,862 from the tiny credit union, now a part of giant San Antonio CU.
Donna Gonzalez, 40, pleaded guilty to issuing checks on dormant accounts and depositing those checks into her personal bank account at Bank of America.
Gonzalez also was ordered to pay full restitution to San Antonio CU.
