WASHINGTON – Credit union representatives will join the United Way this week to introduce a new program that will allow credit union members and bank customers to dedicate a penny for each of their credit or debt card transactions to the national charity. Donations through the "Pennies for Change" program will be used by the United Way to help fund charitable programs in institution’s home community.
The program is similar to ones conducted by several credit unions around the country, some of which give members the option of which charity they want their donations to benefit.
Among the participants are the New York CU League’s Covera Card Services subsidiary, as well as Westchester FCU, FORUM CU, Northeast CU, Superior FCU, CTCE FCU and several regional banks.
The program will be unveiled during a news conference tomorrow in Washington.
