CHICAGO - (09/17/04) -- PIN-based debit purchases continueto carve out an increasing portion of the electronic transactionmarket, growing by more than 25% between March 2003 and March 2004,according to a new report by ATM&Debit News, a sisterpublication of The Credit Union Journal. The new report, includedin the group's annual data book, also found that the number of ATMsdeployed in the U.S. increased by 3.2% over the year to 383,000,but ATM transactions increased by only 1.9%. The leading ATMdeployers continue to be Bank of America, Cardtronics and USBancorp. Among the companies reporting the largest growth in ATMtransaction volumes are: KeyBank, Washington Mutual, SunTrust andFleet Boston (now Bank of America).
