PITTSBURGH A prolific tort lawyer who has sued more than 100 credit unions and banks filed two new suits against credit unions yesterday alleging violations of the provisions of the Americans With Disabilities Act requiring all ATMs to be accessible to the sight impaired.
The newest suits filed by R. Bruce Carlson cite as defendants Community Regional CU in Old Forge, Penn., and Corpus Christi Employees CU in Texas.
Carlson clients have filed seven suits against credit unions in Pennsylvania and Texas in recent days and more than three dozen altogether under the ADA. The Pennsylvania suit was filed by Thomas Klaus, who has sued 22 credit unions and banks under the ADA, and the Texas plaintiff is Crystal Rivas, who has filed nine ADA suits against credit unions and banks.
The suits seek a court order directing the credit unions to bring their ATMs in compliance with provisions of the ADA, including providing Braille keyboards and headphone jacks to provide verbal instructions for operations, among other changes.
