RACINE, Wis. - (09/21/05) -- A court-savvy suspect who has beenthrough seven lawyers began his third trial Monday in the December2000 armed robbery at Belle City CU. The first trial for49-year-old Ricky McMorris ended in a mistrial after his brotherinvoked his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself duringtestimony. A second trial ended in a hung jury on the armed robberycharge and McMorris was convicted of a weapons charge. In themeantime, McMorris has gone through six court-appointed lawyers,either because they have withdrawn from the case or he has firedthem. During Monday's opening arguments, McMorris' latest lawyertold the jury it was McMorris' brother, Charles McMorris, whorobbed the credit union, and not his client.
