MENLO PARK, Calif. – A serial robber believed responsible for as many as a dozen hold-ups from San Diego to Petaluma struck again Monday, at the Provident CU branch here.

The suspect appears to be a man who operates in cities along Highway 101, earning him the nickname the Highway 101 Bandit. The bandit has also hit institutions in Burlingame, Belmont, Campbell, San Jose and Palo Alto.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, walked into the credit union and handed the teller a demand note, then fled through the rear exit with an undisclosed amount of cash.
