HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Just months after retiring as president and CEO of Redstone FCU, Gerry Toland died last week. The cause of death was cancer.

The 69-year-old ex-Marine retired from Alabama’s largest credit union in May after serving 16 years as its chief executive. Since then, Toland had been working as the volunteer executive director of Family Services Center in Huntsville.
Toland was a well-known figure in the credit union movement, having served as president of IBM New Jersey Employees FCU, LA DOT FCU and The United FCU.
He joined Redstone in 1991 when it had assets of $580 million and 149,000 members and built it into a $2 billion institution with 280,000 members.
