Rhode Island’s Coventry CU Hires Its Longtime CPA As CEO

COVENTRY, R.I. – Coventry CU on Tuesday announced Richard Gingell, its president since 2007, has retired and is being succeeded by David Root, an independent auditor for the $260-million credit union.

Root, who has been the credit union’s auditor for the past 20 years, replaces Gingell, whose retirement was Oct. 3.

Credit union officials said Root’s familiarity with the credit union’s business was the main reason for the hiring. “More than 30 years experience in the banking industry, combined with a longstanding relationship with our staff makes David the perfect fit to lead Coventry Credit Union,” said Roger Laliberte, chairman of the board.

Root is a CPA in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and owns Root & Associates.
