ROCKFORD, Ill. – A man who was preparing to rob a Credit Union 1 branch Friday quickly fled for his life when a security guard shot at him.

The would-be robber entered the branch around 1 pm and pointed a long-barreled handgun at a uniformed female security guard who was seated in a chair several feet away from him. The man told the female guard to "freeze."
But the guard drew her weapon and fired one shot that missed the man but struck the front window, according to police. The man ran out of the business heading west.
The suspect was still at large.
