MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Seasons Federal Credit Union on Wednesday said it has received CDFI certification from the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.
The $148 million Seasons said the certification is a "reflection" of its "mission of promoting community development and providing development services in conjunction with its financing activities."
Seasons FCU said it is the only credit union in Connecticut to receive this designation.
CDFI certification will allow Seasons FCU to better serve low- and moderate-income consumers and promote its financial presence in Middlesex and the towns served by the credit union in New Haven County. Benefits of certification include access to financial grants from the CDFI Fund, and partnership opportunities with other financial institutions and community organizations.
"Financial wellness is our primary mission at Seasons Federal Credit Union, and together with our members and community partners, CDFI certification will allow us to amplify our efforts to reach those most in need of accessible and affordable financial products and services," Keith Wiemert, the CU's president and CEO, said in a statement. "We look forward to building capacity and engaging our community in new and exciting ways. The CDFI Certification will allow us to do just that."
Jill Nowacki, president and CEO of the Credit Union League of Connecticut, said, "By design, credit unions are a key player in expanding the economic capacity of a community. Seasons FCU's commitment to its community, exemplified through its pursuit of CDFI certification, ensures members of the community the credit union serves will receive access to dignified, affordable financial services and credit that is critical for building assets and achieving financial stability. I am so proud of the credit union's long-term commitment to extending these solutions to all members of its community."
