WASHINGTON – The Senate Banking Committee easily endorsed NCUA Board nominee Deborah Matz last night, sending it on for a vote by the full Senate as soon as next week.

Matz, who served on the NCUA Board from 2002 through 2005, would be designated chairman of the three-member panel, moving aside current chairman NCUA Michael Fryzel, who will be the lone Republican on the panel. Fryzel was appointed only a year ago to be chairman of the NCUA Board.

Matz said during last week’s confirmation hearing that fixing the corporate credit union system will be among her top priorities. She said she hopes NCUA will propose a plan to reform the troubled corporate system by the end of the year. That means a final reform will not be enacted until early or the middle of next year.
