ST. LOUIS — A man wearing a ski mask used a sledgehammer to break into a South City credit union early Tuesday morning, according to police.
Authorities said the suspect started banging on a brick wall outside St. Louis Community Credit Union's branch at 4435 Chippewa St. with a sledgehammer around 2:45 a.m.
After about 30 minutes of pounding, he created an opening and used it to walk into the $236-million asset CU's branch.
After walking around or about a minute, the suspect then walked out without taking anything, according to police, who are trying to piece together this unusual break-in.
