MEDFORD, N.Y. – Miles Kucera, one of several county employees who chartered Suffolk FCU in 1967 and a well-known figure among the state’s credit unions since then, was killed in a car crash in nearby Jamesport last Thursday.
Kucera, active in community service, was a director of the $840 million credit union at the time of his death. The credit union had named its new headquarters after him in 2007.
He served as a volunteer president of the credit union until 1986, when he joined the credit union as a full-time employee, retiring from the Suffolk County Department of Public Works after 38 years. Kucera also served on the board of directors of the New York State CU League for many years, including a term as chairman; and the board of the New York State Shared Branching organization.
