MADISON, Wis. – In the latest mega-credit union combination, Summit CU and Great Wisconsin yesterday said they plan to merge, creating the state’s largest credit union.
Summit CU, the former State Capitol CU, is the state’s sixth-largest credit union with almost $700 million in assets and 62,000 members. Great Wisconsin CU, the former CUNA CU, and has almost $400 million in assets and 48,000 members.
The combination, to be known as Summit CU, is expected to slightly exceed Landmark CU as the state’s largest credit union. The merger is scheduled for completion in January.
The combination is one of several pending mega-mergers among credit unions, including: Western FCU and Toyota FCU; CommunityAmerica and Midwest United CU; Meriwest CU and Golden Bay CU; SAFE CU and Capital Power CU; and Wescom CU and Great American CU.
