Summit CU Launches VISA to Benefit WOCCU

A new partnership between Summit CU and the World Council of Credit Unions is set to raise awareness of WOCCU's global work and provide additional support to the organization's efforts to increase access to credit union services worldwide.

Under the partnership, Summit will launch a new program called the Global Good Card, a VISA campaign designed to "highlight the goal of both organizations to improve member lives and communities through financial empowerment." For every Global Good Card opened through Jan. 31, 2017, Summit will donate $10 to WOCCU, along with an additional 20% of interchange fees. Members who use the card will have the option to donate $10 annually, and the option to redeem rewards points for a cash donation will also be available.

"We have believed and supported the important work [WOCCU] does to bring access to credit to low-income families and women in emerging countries since its inception," Summit CU president and CEO Kim Sponem said in a statement. "The Global Good Card was developed by Summit as another way for our members to help members throughout the world become financially self-sustaining."

WOCCU President and CEO Brian Branch credited Summit as "an outstanding role model in the credit union community" and pointed to the World Council's belief in "granting access to financial resources and tools" as an empowerment tool for struggling communities in developing areas.

Summit and WOCCU are both based in Madison, Wisc.
