SWCFCU Provides Help

Southwest Corporate has been working behind the scenes to help get credit unions up and running in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

"In many cases credit unions have been able to set up from remote locations, and we're helping with that connectivity," said Southwest Corporate Spokesperson Terry Young. "We were able to help reestablish a share draft program for ASI FCU in New Orleans. We really take a behind-the-scenes role."

The corporate shut down its item processing operation in Houston during Hurricane Rita, but there was no damage to its building, and the site is already back in operation. "Our members wouldn't have even noticed a change," Young added. "We just rerouted to our sites in Dallas and Jacksonville."

One Southwest employee in Louisiana had a home in New Orleans that was completely submerged under water and expects that to be a total loss.
