AUSTIN, Texas - (09/21/04) -- CUNA paid an unusually large amountof attention to congressional races last month in Texas, where thecontroversial redistricting last year has left as any as a dozenraces up for grabs. CUNA made a total of $51,000 in contributionsto 23 different of the state's 32 races, and has contributed morethan $200,000 to Texas races in the current elections. Last month'scontributions came as the Texas CU League was collecting signaturesof 22 of the state's House members in support of the credit uniontax exemption. The biggest contributions went to: Reps. RandyNeugebauer (R) $5,000; Chet Edwards (D) $5,000; and Majority LeaderTom DeLay $5,000, including $2,000 that went to DeLay's leadershipPAC, called ARMPAC. Separately, the Texas league unveiled a newfeature on its website Monday that will allow people to makecontributions to its political action committee online.
