Tiny Germania Credit Union names successor for retiring CEO

Nick Tonelli is set to take the helm next month at the $10 million-asset Germania Credit Union in Brenham, Texas.

Nick Tonelli, CEO of Germania Credit Union

Tonelli will take over on Nov. 5, the Cornerstone Credit Union League announced Friday. He succeeds Cecil Barker, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

The incoming CEO previously served as retail regional manager at Collins Community Credit Union in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was recruited by Credit Union Resources, a division of the Cornerstone league. Tonelli has spent a dozen years in management positions within the financial services industry, including working in the credit unions for the last seven years. In addition to his time at Collins Community, he was a branch manager at Ames-based Greater Iowa CU.

Tonelli is a graduate of Iowa State University, holding a bachelor of science in business with an emphasis in finance and management.

Germania Credit Union’s NCUA call reports show it earned approximately $5,900 through the first half of this year, compared with a loss of nearly $3,000 for the same period a year earlier. The credit union lost about $1,400 in 2017 and $6,500 in 2016.
