BALTIMORE Tower FCU, the credit union for the National Security Agency, has added branches in nearby Curtis Bay and Pasadena with the merger of U.S. Coast Guard Community CU, one of just two privately insured credit unions in Maryland.
Formerly known as U.S. Coast Guard Yard CU, USCGCCU was a $34-million credit union serving civilian employees of the U.S. Coast Guard Yard and Surface Forces Logistics Center in Baltimore. It has reported losses for five years in a row, including a $136,000 loss for the first quarter of 2013.
Tower FCU has $2.7 billion in assets and is based in Laurel, Md., about a half-hour south of Baltimore.
