WASHINGTON -
NAFCU President Fred Becker appeared on Washington's 24-hour local cable news channel, NewsChannel 8, as part of a report on identity theft. NAFCU has released a new brochure on the issue and the dangers of vishing and phishing.
"Every minute, 28 people will become victims of identity theft. In 2005, it was estimated that identity theft cost businesses and consumers $56.6-billion. So we have to work diligently to stay ahead of the thieves," said Becker. "Identity thieves are always coming up with clever ways to trick people into giving up their personal information."
Meanwhile, CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica appears on the "jumbotron" outside Washington's Verizon Center during a live interview on Bloomberg TVtoday. Mica told the national television audience that a Treasury plan to provide foreclosure relief to some subprime mortgage borrowers has promise, but warned that no action can be a "silver bullet."
Mica, a former congressman, also advised that Congress needs to act carefully when considering actions to ease the country's subprime mortgage woes.
