CHANTILLY, Va. – A 21-year-old woman and her alleged getaway car driver were arrested after Tuesday’s robbery at an Apple FCU branch in this northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C.
The suspects were identified as Shona Jones and Joshua Campbell, 26. The two are believed to be responsible for five other recent heists, two of them at credit unions.
The Fairfax County robbery squad was conducting surveillance on several area credit unions and banks when a black female resembling the lookout in three previous bank robberies entered the Apple branch. When the suspect left the credit union detectives approached Jones and took her into custody.
At the same time, a vehicle thought to be a getaway car left the parking lot. Police followed and after a short pursuit pulled over Campbell, who fled on foot before being captured by police.
The two also were charged with robbing another Apple branch in Centreville, a branch of Northwest FCU in Chantilly, as well as BB&T Bank in Centreville – the latter heist is when Jones is believed to have been driving the getaway car.
The two each were charged with four counts of armed robbery.
