NEW LONDON, Conn. – A woman who robbed a local bank and a credit union seven days later this fall was sentenced Tuesday to 55 months behind bars.
Tonya Viens, 30, pleaded guilty to robbing the Dime Savings Bank Oct. 21, then the Core Plus CU branch a week later.
Viens and her ex-husband, Marwan Chankar , 33, made off with a combined $4,100 in the robberies. Police said Chankar drove Viens to and from each bank. In each robbery, police said Viens passed a note, threatening the use of a bomb.
Viens’ ex-husband, Chankar, faces five and half years in prison when he is sentenced in February.
