ST. JOSEPH, Mich.-United FCU here is mourning the passing of founding member John Soos, Jr., who died last week at age 98.
Soos was one of a small group of employees of the Nineteen Hundred Corp.-today known as Whirlpool Corp.-who started what was to become United Federal Credit Union. Today the CU has branches in six states and serves more than 130,000 members.
Soos was United's first president, staying on the job until he left Whirlpool in 1960. In a
Gary Easterling, United FCU's president and CEO, credited Soos and other founding members for laying the groundwork for the credit union's success today.
"Thousands of people are benefitting from the foresight that John and his four colleagues exhibited as young men," Easterling said in a statement. "While I am saddened by John's passing, his ideals will live on as we continue to build an even greater legacy for the future."
