PORTLAND, Ore--Unitus Community Credit Union has become the latest to offer a loan discount for purchasing an environmentally friendly vehicle. The credit union's "Green Loan" reduces the auto loan rate by 50 basis points for any member financing a 2003 or newer hybrid vehicle. Full and mild hybrids qualify for the rate reduction. "We're encouraging our members to save money, save gas, and ultimately, improve our environment," said Paul Kirkbride, VP of Credit Services at Unitus. In introducing the loan, UCCU pointed to research showing Portland is a leader in innovative transportation solutions and has a large population of eco-friendly residents.
