WASHINGTON - (06/20/05) -- Dozens of wounded soldiersrecovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center will be able tocommunicate with ease over the Internet with their units in Iraqand family members, thanks to the Pentagon FCU Foundation. Thefledgling charitable arm of the credit union raised $86,000 fromcorporate donors to finance installation of 27 wireless computersat the Fisher Houses recuperation center at Walter Reed forhomecoming soldiers. The project, that may serve as a pilot for theother 33 Fisher House around the world, was unveiled during aceremony here last week. The laptop computers will be loaned torecovering soldiers when they first enter the three Fisher Housesat Walter Reed Hospital and the troops will be able to use themduring their recuperation on-site. The credit union's charitablearm also helped finance furnishings at the recovery facilityearlier this year.
