Washington CUs Kick Off Radio, Bus Ads

COLUMBIA, Md. – The Maryland & DC CU Association launched the latest round of its cooperative WhatsinItForMe? ad campaign with radio and metro bus spots, a new website and Facebook page.

The kick-off comes as more than 1,000 credit union executives are flying in to Washington to lobby Congress against interchange provisions in the pending bank reform bill.

The regional campaign, which will extend from Washington’s Maryland suburbs to its Virginia suburbs, runs from June 7 to July 31, with a primary audience of women 25-54 and Gen Y.

“We are taking our message about the benefits of credit unions to another level to include social media,” said MDDCCUA President Mike Beall. “This campaign represents a coordinated, cooperative effort with a wide scope to make all consumers in the region aware of the credit union alternative to banks.”

The campaign features a new WhatsInItForMe.org website: The newly updated website defines credit unions to consumers, and includes testimonials, a consumer quiz, and a search engine – www.findacreditunion.com – to help consumers locate a credit union by affiliation or location.

It also includes social media. Consumers can become fans of the Cooperative Advertising Facebook page at www.facebook.com/whatsinitforme, watch the growing number of participants and provide feedback.

Ninety credit unions contributed to the $170,000 campaign.
