PASADENA, Calif. - (05/08/06) Robert Brain, a longtimemanager of Wescom CU and a leader in the credit union movement,died last week at his home in Pasadena after a long battle with LouGehrigs disease. He was 75. Brain served on the board of thecredit union, then known as Telephone Employees CU, from 1966 to1971, then was president from 1971 to 1997, guiding the creditunion, which changed its name to Wescom CU in 1996, to over $1billion in assets. By the time Brain retired in 1997 Wescom had 12branches and more than 100,000 members and was one of the biggestcredit unions in the country. He also served on the board of theCalifornia CU League, the advisory committee of the CaliforniaCommissioner of Corporations, and the NASCUS advisorycouncil.
